Last Sunday was National Rum Day – however, I feel that rum needs at least a week to be fully appreciated, so that make today still part of National Rum Week!
In my last tiki post I looked at the classic Mai Tai, but today I’m featuring a longer, fruitier drink perfect for holidays or just for sunny days in the garden.
Bahama Mama (makes 2)
- 50ml Havana Club 3 Year Rum
- 40ml Malibu Coconut Rum
- 25ml Orgeat Almond Syrup
- 50ml Lime Juice
- 100ml Pineapple Juice
- 100ml Orange Juice
- 30ml Grenadine
Add all of the ingredients except Grenadine to a large shaker with ice, shake well. Fill two hurricane glasses with hard ice and then strain cocktail over the ice. Drizzle grenadine on top of ice, garnish with umbrellas, flamingoes, straws and anything else you have to hand!
This is one of those tiki drinks where the recipe seems to vary every place you look, so feel free to play around with it until it works for you – for example, if you don’t have Orgeat you can leave it out. When it comes to rum, use whatever you prefer – dark, golden and even white can work. Can’t choose a favourite? Add a splash of each!

Take all of the ingredients above and put them in a blender with a fresh banana (ideally fairly ripe) and blend until smooth. Even more delicious and fun!
